Such a great big brother...

Ayden is warming up quite nicley to his role as big brother...it has taken him some time, but I think it is finally settling with him that Levi is here to stay.  Last night when Levi did his Tummy Time Ayden came and layed down with him...it was really cute-same thing this morning too...It is so nice to have the two of them getting along, and being able to have a few minutes of them next to each other that I dont have to referee!

Your Birth Story

My little man,

I wanted to share your birth story with you...I sit here writing this more than 18 months later.  I wonder why I didn't do this sooner, but the birth of you brother Levi (5 weeks ago) has made me look at things much differently...

Here is how you came about...mommy and daddy got married October 25th, 2006.  We originally said that we were not going to have children for 3-5 years, but a few months after that we both decided that we didn't really need to wait.  We wanted to start a family, and if god was willing to bless us with a beautiful baby then we would be more than willing to take on the role of parents.  So, about 9 months after we said 'I do' we found out that we were expecting.

I remember that day as if it was yesterday. It was a Saturday. Mom and dad were hanging at the house and mommy was feeling kind of sick.  I didn't tell your daddy that I was even going to take a test, I just did...3 minutes later I knew.  I hid the test and found a box and wrapped it up like a present for daddy...I couldn't stop smiling...I went out into the living room and had daddy open it.. He was so excited!

Nana and Papa were fostering greyhounds at the time, and they had just got a new foster that day.  Usually mommy was right over there to meet the new doggies, but that day I wasn't. So Nana came over to make sure that we were ok and brought the new dog, Beauty, so we could meet her.  We didn't say a word about the news, that was hard! I told your Nana the next day...she was so excited and got all teary!

The hardest thing was that we had just signed a new lease at a town-house in Lansing 2 weeks prior to finding out that you were hiding in my womb.  We were living in Albion right next door to Nana and Papa-and we were moving away from all the help!  It all worked out ok in the end, but mommy still misses having them so close.
The pregnancy went well but seemed like it took forever!  I found an OB/GYN in Lansing who I really liked, but she moved away to Florida before I had you.  I didn't like who I ended up with after that...

Mommy spent many days in your nursery just sitting in the rocker dreaming about what would be, folding your tiny clothes and longing to put you in them.  And so it started...It was a Sunday night.  I started having contractions on and off...nothing too painful but just uncomfortable.   That continued for several days with us going in and out of the hospital to check and see if we were making any progress.

Finally on Thursday the doctor decided to keep me and start an induction.  I had been in early labor for 3 1/2 days, and had been only dilated to a 3 and 60% effaced up until that day, when I finally hit 4 cm and 80%.  At 5:00PM Thursday April 3rd, 2008 they admitted me, hooked up an IV, broke the bag of water, and started pitocin. You were born 5 hours later after only 2 hours of hard labor and 15 minutes of pushing....you came quick once you made up your mind!
